Gardeners Bermondsey is committed to providing gardening and grounds care services in a manner that safeguards the health, safety and welfare of our employees, clients, contractors and members of the public. We recognise that effective health and safety management is an integral part of delivering reliable, professional and responsible gardening services.

This Health and Safety policy sets out the principles and responsibilities that guide our work on all sites where we operate. It applies to all team members and to any contractors working under our control.

Our Health and Safety Objectives

Our primary objectives are to prevent injury, ill health, property damage and environmental harm arising from our gardening activities. We aim to:

Identify, assess and control risks associated with gardening work, including the use of machinery, hand tools, chemicals and vehicles. Management Responsibilities

Company management is responsible for implementing this policy and for ensuring that adequate resources are in place to manage health and safety. Management will:

Typical risks in gardening work include manual handling, slips and trips, cuts and abrasions, noise, vibrating tools, lawnmowers and cutting machinery, traffic movement, working at height, weather conditions and the use of horticultural chemicals. We implement control measures such as careful job planning, safe handling techniques, guards and safety devices on machinery, correct storage of tools and materials, route planning for vehicles and equipment, and the use of appropriate personal protective equipment.

Use of Machinery, Tools and Vehicles

All accidents, injuries, dangerous occurrences and near misses must be reported to management as soon as possible. This enables us to provide appropriate assistance, record what has happened and implement corrective actions.

On each site we make employees aware of relevant emergency arrangements, such as access routes, assembly points and how to obtain medical help. First aid provisions are maintained and made available during working hours.

Monitoring and Policy Review

This Health and Safety policy is reviewed regularly, and at least annually, to ensure it remains current, effective and aligned with our gardening services and legal obligations. Updated versions will be communicated to all employees and made available to clients on request.
